Acrylic
Care and Cleaning
Like all products, it is important to
use the proper cleaning solution to keep your acrylic furniture looking
beautiful. We use and recommend Novus Plastic Polishes. These are available
in many hardware or plastic supply stores, as well as at Shoppingart.com
When cleaning, wipe gently with a soft
cloth or chamois. Also be sure to apply enough plastic cleaner to actual
acrylic and to the cloth.
Scratch removal: Like
beautiful wood or fine silver, acrylic can scratch. Unlike other
materials, a scratch on acrylic can be removed. Minor scratches can be
visibly removed by using the Novus Polish and a cloth. Deeper scratches can be
removed by purchasing restoration kits.
Caution: Do not use window
cleaning fluids, scouring compounds, gritty cloths, household scouring
compounds, lacquer thinner, benzene, leaded or ethyl gasoline or strong
solvents such as alcohol, acetone, or carbon tetra chlorine. Keep away
from excess heat or open flame.

Novus No.1
To Clean & Protect Use NOVUS No. 1
Gently cleans all plastics without scratching.
Leaves a lustrous shine that resists fogging, repels dust, and eliminates static.
Resists finger marking
Contains no abrasives or harsh chemicals
Leaves a smooth, clean, greaseless shine
NOVUS No. 1
Cleans, Shines, and Protects All Plastics
-
If the surface is extremely dirty, apply NOVUS No.1 liberally and wipe using long,
sweeping strokes. Do not use pressure at this time or large dirt particles may scratch the plastic.
-
Re-apply NOVUS NO.1. Polish using short, circular strokes with a clean portion of the cloth.
-
When surface is thoroughly clean and uniformly covered, buff to a slippery glaze
with a clean portion of the cloth. Surfaces buffed to a high glaze are more resistant to dust and future scratching.
-
Reapply NOVUS NO.1 regularly to maintain the antistatic, smudge and scratch resistant properties.
NOVUS Polish Mates
The type of polishing cloth you use will make a difference.
Ideal cloth is nonabrasive, absorbent, and lint free. To eliminate
any chance of scratching, use only disposable cloths. Reusable
cloths can retain abrasive particles, but you won't know for sure
until the damage is done. NOVUS Polish Mates are sold in convenient
6-Packs or in bulk. If NOVUS Polish Mates are not available, use
a soft cotton cloth (such as a diaper), avoid using polyester or
rayon wipes which can scratch unprotected plastic.

Novus No.2

To Restore & Refinish Use NOVUS No.2
Removes fine scratches, haziness and abrasions from most plastics.
With repeated use, NOVUS No. 2 restores faded and discolored plastics.
Removes the damage instead of filling it in
Buffs out quickly
After restoring, seals with a coat of polish
NOVUS No.2
Removes Fine Scratches from Most Plastics
-
Observe condition of the surface to be treated. The deeper the scratches,
the greater the pressure required to remove them. If the surface is dirty,
clean with NOVUS No.1 before applying NOVUS No.2.
-
Shake well. Test in an inconspicuous area.
-
Apply NOVUS No. 2 liberally. Using a clean, soft cloth, polish with a firm
back-and-forth motion at right angles to the scratches. Keep the cloth saturated
with polish at all times.
-
When the worst scratches have been polished out, reapply NOVUS No.2 uniformly
in a circular motion to the entire surface using short, circular strokes and
light pressure. Allow to dry to a light haze.
-
Using a clean portion of the cloth, buff the surface to a slippery glaze using
firm, short strokes. This procedure is imperative in achieving the best results.
-
For heavy scratches, multiple applications of NOVUS No. 2 or application of
NOVUS No.3 may be required.
-
Follow with NOVUS No. 1 for best results.
NOVUS Polish Mates
If the damaged area is fairly large or badly damaged, a power buffer
may be used with NOVUS No. 2 and No. 3. Use a clean wool or cotton bonnet
and operate the buffer at a low speed to avoid overheating the plastic,
approximately 1,000 RPM. Each polish should be applied with a separate, clean bonnet.

to entire surface. Polish using light pressure until NOVUS No.2
dries to a light haze.
-

Follow with NOVUS No. 1 for best results.
NOVUS Polish Mates
Important Points to Remember - Before attempting to clean or
remove scratches, always make sure the plastic is cool to the touch.
Use a liberal amount of plastic cleaner to safely remove surface
dust and dirt. In addition, test scratch removers in a small or
inconspicuous area for compatibility. Some plastics are coated
with a thin film which may be damaged by the abrasives in the polish.
NOVUS No.2 and No.3 are not recommended for use on eyeglass lenses.

| WARNING:
When using electrical products, especially when children are
present, basic safety precautions should be followed. |
| DANGER:
TO REDUCE THE RISK OF ELECTROCUTION |
| Always
unplug the light after using. |
|
| Do not
place or drop plug end of pump into water or other liquid. Do not
reach for any item that has fallen into the water...first unplug
Immediately. Use this product for its intended purpose only. Do not use
other attachments not recommended by the manufacturer. Keep all cords
away from heated surfaces. |
|
After
carefully unpacking the components you are ready to begin the set-up
procedure |
| Note: Do
not touch the grooves and front of panel with your fingers |
- Locate the base reservoir and
components near the desired location.
|
- Take the electrical plug from the
pump and feed it through the hole at the bottom of the back panel
(the side with the grooves and the brass nipple).

|
- Lift the back panel and carefully
slide it down into the base between side blocks and back.

|
- Back Panel should fit snuggly to the
bottom.

|
- Hold Pump in hand and CAREFULLY
thread and tighten pipe assembly until it is snug. DO NOT OVER
TIGHTEN AS THREAD MAY BREAK!

|
-
Gently slip
plastic tube over the brass nipple on the back panel.

|
-
Plastic tube should
cover both nipples

|
- Pump and valve assembly should fit
neatly on the bottom of base reservoir.

|
- The waterfall should be moved into a
permanent location.
|
- Slip halogen light and arm assembly
into the slotted black bracket at top of back panel. Slip cord
carefully through slot.

|
- Level all angles of base reservoir
and back panel by adjusting the four nylon feet on the bottom. NOTE: Leveling is CRITICAL to water
flow!!
 |
-
You’re now ready for
water. It is recommended that you use DISTILLED or PURIFIED water to
help neutralize lime and mineral deposits and to ensure clarity Due to
evaporation you will need to check water levels every 3 to 5 days.
It is advised that you clean and refill every 2 months
or so.
|
-
Plug in pump. The valve
for water is pre-adjusted at the studio, but you can open by turning
counterclockwise or close by turn clockwise.
|
| WATER
LEVEL SHOULD COVER TOP OF PUMP. |
-
When water reaches the
top panel ledge it begins to spill over. Running your finger across
the top edge evens the flow across the ledge. Adjust the flow so
that the entire face of the panel is covered. You can control the
speed and look desired.
|
-
After the water is
flowing, as you like, put the plastic grid on top of reservoir and
add rocks evenly to cover.
|
| Plug
in and adjust upper light for best effect. |
| IMPORTANT HINTS: During
the first 24 hours let the water run continuously. If water flows
unevenly on the face, lightly sand needed areas with enclosed 80 grit
sandpaper. NEVER LET PUMP RUN DRY!! |
|
| CLEANING:
Wipe the surface with a soft, non-abrasive cloth together with an acrylic or plastic cleaner.
.DO NOT USE WINDOW CLEANERS, SOLVENTS OR AMMONIA BASED CLEANERS.
Acrylic cleaners are available at most auto parts stores. |
